Study, Train, Discover, Create

About Koothu-P-Pattarai

OUR ORIGINS
We, Koothu-P-Pattarai (KPP), are a contemporary Tamil theatre group founded in 1977 by Sangeet Natak Academi winner and playwright Mr N Muthuswamy. We provide our actors with training in acting, folk dance, martial arts, yoga and music. Our theatre language incorporates elements of dance, folk theatre, improvisation using mime, music and martial arts creatively so that space, movement and choreography become as important to the action as literary content or dialogue.

UNESCO BURSARY
We have been functioning as a full time Tamil theatre repertory since 1987. The UNESCO has identified us as one among the five learning centers for theatre and from 2000 to 2007, under the ASCHBERG program, we have hosted one student for three months every year coming from any part of the world to study and teach theatre. At present, UNESCO is redesigning this program for all its centers and thus we are hoping that we would continue our association with them.

INTERACTIVE CENTER OF THEATRE PERSONALITIES
We have invited prominent theatre people from India and the world over who have conducted theatre workshops for our actors and also directed many of our productions. Some of them are Prof. S.
